Hair restoration is not only delivered in the form of hair growth medications, laser devices, PRP, or transplantation. For some men and women, scalp micropigmentation offers the illusion of real hair when hair transplant surgery is either not an option or not desired.
Scalp micropigmentation is a revolutionary, nonsurgical alternative that applies permanent, medical-grade pigments to the scalp. It offers the look of very short hair, which is great for men who keep their heads closely shaved. It also works well for men and women with hair thinning or scars who simply want to hide their exposed scalp. Plano, TX hair transplant surgeon, Dr. Joseph Yaker, offers scalp micropigmentation for patients desiring this nonsurgical approach that eliminates hair loss through the art of pigmentation. It not only looks like real hair, but it blends in like real hair and offers minimal upkeep.
Scalp Micro-Pigmentation Reviews
"To this day I still I find it very difficult to describe how I felt about even considering Scalp Micropigmentation. The procedure is permanent and the final result is mostly dependent on the skillset of one?s doctor and technician. Fate smiled upon me the day I discovered the Texas Center for Hair Restoration. Dr. Yaker and his staff have been consistently courteous, professional, and down-to-earth since the initial consultation. The SMP treatment was performed by a top-notch technician in one sitting and the results have been sublime since day one. None of my friends can tell that I?ve had the procedure done. They cannot even tell the difference between my real hair follicles and the areas given SMP after my disclosure, either. Something else to note - apparently there exists world-renowned ?scalp guru?. A lot of my initial research on SMP treatment took place on his website prior to requesting the initial consultation with Dr. Yaker. I sent him pictures of the work after the initial healing and he had nothing but praise. Kudos, Dr. Yaker, and thank you for giving me a greater sense of self-confidence."- C.S. / Google / Aug 10, 2016
Scalp micropigmentation is best used on hair loss patients regardless of skin tone or hair color, who are not candidates for hair transplant surgery or are looking for a non-invasive treatment. It can also compliment hair transplant procedures by making your newly transplanted hair appear fuller. Men with hair loss who closely shave their head can also use this non-invasive procedure as a way to redefine their hairline and appear as though they have tightly shaved hair. In addition, patients with scarring, more specifically the linear scar left behind following an FUT surgery, can benefit from this procedure as the pigmentation can hide a scar.
How It Works
Scalp micropigmentation is a safe and effective hair replication procedure that is performed by our licensed and certified micropigmentation specialist under the guidance of Dr. Joseph Yaker. The permanent, all-natural pigment is color matched to your own hair and applied directly into the skin, creating thousands of tiny stipples (pigmented dots), replicating the natural appearance of real hair follicles. The pigment itself is organic and does not contain any harmful chemicals or metallic ingredients traditionally found in tattoo ink. As a result, there is no concern for the color to distort or fade over time. These unique pigments also naturally age with your hair, blending in if you begin to gray.
Since the pigments applied don’t penetrate the skin as deep as traditional tattooing, pain is minimal. Each patient requires three to four sessions, seven to ten days apart. The length of the first two sessions can take anywhere from two to four hours. The third and fourth session may last as little as forty-five minutes, up to two hours. After the procedure, patients will have mild redness that will subside within the first few days. The final result occurs two to four weeks after your final procedure, as it takes time for the pigments to settle into the scalp and blend in. The end result is a 3D visual illusion of natural-appearing hair.
Since very little aftercare is required, we do not sell unnecessary, expensive post-procedure products. The redness/irritation to the scalp should last from 24 to 72 hours, however there is no pain. It is recommended that you refrain from exposing the scalp to chlorine (no swimming), and sweat (no exercise) for 7 to 10 days following the procedure. You may begin grooming your hair with an electric razor with no guard after 5-7 days. It is extremely important that you stay away from the sun. Sun damage can break down the pigments and cause fading. If you are exposed to sunlight for extended periods of time, please wear a hat or apply sunscreen (SPF 30 with zinc oxide) to protect your scalp from harmful UV rays. It will take up to 4 weeks for the pigments to completely blend in and reach its final color.
Each day sweat, oil, debris, and dead skin cells form an invisible plaque on the scalp. The plaque build up can obstruct hair pores and lead to poor hair health and scalp inflammation. Therefore, it is extremely important that you wash your scalp effectively in order to effectively remove the plaque buildup. When drying the scalp with a towel, make sure to pat dry and not rub.
For patients who are looking for the cropped hair or buzz cut look, you will need to keep your hair shaved to create an illusion of 3D hair growth. With our procedure you do not need to use a traditional razor to blade shave your scalp. Instead, you may use an electric razor with no guard (1/16th of an inch) every few days. Daily moisturizing is important to ensure your scalp remains hydrated.
The cost of scalp micropigmentation averages between $2,500-$5,000, depending on the location and size of the desired treatment area. Patients with extensive hair loss may require two days to complete the procedure.
